Optimum Software Integration, Inc., a California corporation was formed in 1993. The two principals of the corporation are Larry L. Carr and Stanley O. Long, who are both former IBM employees and who bring a wide variety of training and experience to the company.
Optimum specializes in system integration and migration of older computer systems to the IBM AS/400 and RS/6000 families of computers, markets various hardware and software enhancements for these systems and performs specialty application and systems programming.
Open/36 , an operating system add-on to AIX that allows the RS/6000 to operate as an IBM System/36 computer is one of its primary products. Optimum created the Remote Workstation Controller software that is one of the features of Open/36...this software package allows S/36 installations to continue using their existing remote workstations, printers and controllers while greatly increasing response time for their users.
Optimum also markets and installs the R/390 Adapter and software (which IBM announced on April 23, 1996) that allows the RS/6000 to operate as an IBM mainframe. This is an extremely efficient and cost-effective solution for mainframe customers who need replacement of low-end machines, standalone development systems or testing of "Year 2000" software modifications.
Larry L. Carr is President of Optimum. He spent ten years at IBM as a Systems Engineer, working on S/360 and S/370, S/3X accounts and in New Account Marketing. He formed Optimum Software, Inc. (a predecessor to Optimum Software Integration) as an application/custom programming company. In 1993, he joined with Stan Long and formed Optimum specifically to market the IBM RS/6000 and related hardware/software products.
Stanley O. Long is Vice-President of Optimum. He spent twenty six years at IBM, beginning in Field Engineering working on the IBM S/360. He then worked as a PSR and Systems Engineer on large systems and in 1987 worked on the Area 12 (Southern California) staff as an AIX Specialist. When the RS/6000 was announced in 1990, he was on the IBM launch team. He has a unique combination of professional skills, including S/370 hardware/software and AIX. Most recently building and maintaining this and other websites. In December of 1998 he obtained certification as an "Advanced Technical Expert for the RS/6000 AIX 4.2". In April of 1999 also obtained IBM certification as a "Solutions Marketing Expert for the RS/6000".
